Research Summary
Broadly, I am interested in the co-evolution of the biosphere and geosphere on Earth, as well as the rigorous study of biological imprints left on planetary bodies: from the geomorphic to the molecular scale. My primary work in the Grotzinger lab involves the paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the Mississippian Windsor Group in Maritime Canada. The Paleozoic Maritimes Basin largely records nonmarine siliciclastic deposit, punctuated by the Windsor Group marine and marine evaporite deposition. The Windsor Group has been interpreted to record a transgressive marine invasion of numerous subbasins in Viséan Atlantic Canada, which existed largely isolated from the ocean through subsequent transgressive-regressive cycles. Particularly, I am studying the basal marine carbonate, the Macumber Formation, and overlying evaporite sequence to deduce key environmental information about the evolution of these ephemeral water bodies.
